I am Helene Matthia, 37 years old, a Jazz Vocals graduate from the Prins Claus Conservatory.

I have over 10 years of teaching experience for adults and teens (12+), from beginners to advanced levels.

Lessons are available in English and Dutch.

I started singing at an early age - in choirs, ensembles, and theatre - but as a teenager, I often struggled with my voice and felt blocked.

These experiences shaped my teaching approach:
I create a safe, personal environment where students can explore their voices freely, build confidence, and deepen their connection to singing - whether taking first steps or refining their artistic expression.

In our lessons, we explore techniques that resonate with your voice and curiosity - from shaping vibrato and moving through falsetto to working with belting, vocal runs, ad-libs and distortion singing.

Together, we move through a wide and diverse repertoire, guided by your interests - from styles like Broadway, Jazz, Pop, Rock, or Traditional Folk.

I have successfully coached students for auditions and performances and help beginners overcome fears and blockades.

My main teaching location is HBS, a creative hub for music and performance in Rotterdam. I also teach at School of Music in Rotterdam and Parnassos in Utrecht.

INDIVIDUAL LESSONS:

Piano basics, music theory, and solfège
Song interpretation, improvisation, songwriting
Preparation for auditions, recordings, or performances

GROUP LESSONS:

Singing together in a supportive, creative setting
Harmony, listening, and ensemble work
Solo singing and backing vocals
Improvisation and musical interaction
Building confidence and stage presence
